FAQs

  • Integrative psychiatry combines conventional psychiatric tools—like diagnosis and medication—with somatic therapy, relational care, and a deeper understanding of your lived experience. We don’t just ask what’s wrong; we ask what’s happened, what’s held in your body, and what’s possible in your healing. It’s care that respects both science and spirit.

  • Somatic therapy is body-based healing. It helps you tune into sensation, breath, and movement as a way to process emotion, regulate the nervous system, and move through trauma. At Tended Root, somatic therapy is part of our foundation—it may look like body awareness, breath work, tracking, or hands-on care.

  • Your initial intake is a 90-minute session designed to go well beyond standard psychiatric evaluations. We take time to hear your story, understand your body’s rhythms, and map out a treatment plan that integrates somatic and psychiatric tools based on your needs and readiness.

  • No. Some clients engage primarily with psychotherapy and somatic work; others begin with medication management and expand into integrative care over time. We’ll work with you to build a care plan that matches your goals and capacity. ***Do we want to say here that regular therapy of some kind is a requirement of med mgmt?**

  • We begin with deep listening and informed, embodied consent. If we sense that hands-on work like abdominal myofascial therapy or pelvic floor care might support your healing, we’ll have a clear conversation about it and proceed if and when it feels right to you.

  • It depends on your goals. Many sessions involve a blend of conversation, guided somatic awareness, nervous system regulation, and (when appropriate and agreed upon) hands-on work. We co-create the rhythm of each session together.

  • You’re not alone. For many people, the idea of starting psychiatric medication feels vulnerable and even frightening. In our practice, pharmaceuticals are seen as supportive bridges—not as stand-alone treatments. We use a conservative approach: start low, go slow, and always follow your lead. We’ll help you track your experience closely and are never married to any one method.

  • This is where integrative psychiatry shines. Alongside medication, we take a holistic look at your health—including lab work, genetic insights, gut function, brain metabolism, sleep rhythms, daily routines, relational dynamics, and community support. With this fuller picture, we can use somatic therapy to help you rebuild patterns of regulation, vitality, and resilience. We also offer nutraceuticals and targeted supplements to support your healing process—especially for concerns like anxiety, depression, fatigue, insomnia, and ADHD—always tailored to your unique body and goals.

  • We offer both. Psychotherapy, medication management, and some somatic work can be done virtually. Hands-on therapies are only available in person.

  • Yes. We are experienced in supporting clients through safe, trauma-informed medication tapers. We’ll collaborate with you to create a plan that centers your well-being, timing, and goals.

  • We currently practice in Oregon. If you reside in Washington or California, we plan to be licensed in these states soon. You're welcome to receive care in Oregon, and we encourage you to reach out if you’d like to be notified when we begin offering services in your state. Future retreats will also be held in these regions.

  • In order to provide the highest quality care, we do not bill insurance. This allows us to offer longer, more attuned sessions and avoid constraints imposed by insurance models. We do accept HSA/FSA cards and can provide superbills upon request.

  • Because healing takes time. We’ve intentionally created longer appointments to support your nervous system, build trust, and allow for real integration. Our pricing reflects the depth of training, skill, and presence we bring to every session—and the spaciousness required for transformative care.

  • We do not offer care for high-acuity psychiatric conditions such as active suicidal ideation, psychosis, or complex medication needs requiring intensive monitoring. If you're currently in crisis or need stabilization, we recommend accessing a higher level of care first.

  • We are not a crisis service. If you're in immediate danger or need urgent care, please call 911, visit your nearest emergency room, or contact a crisis hotline such as 988. Once stabilized, we may be a good fit for longer-term healing work.

  • At this time, we work only with adults (18+).

  • We ask for cancellations at least 48 hours in advance. Cancellations within 24–48 hours are charged 50% of your session fee; within 24 hours, the full fee applies unless there is a true emergency. These boundaries allow us to offer consistent, reliable care to all of our clients.
